Scent description: Fresh, resinous.
Extraction: Pine essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the pine needles. It produces a colourless to pale yellow oil.
Constituents/Active Ingredients: 50 - 90% monoterpene hydrocarbons: pinene, careen, dipentene, limonene, terpinenes, myrcene, ocimene, camphene, sabinene. Also bornyl acetate, cineol, citral, chamazulene, amongst others.
General: Pine pure essential oil is invigorating when used diluted in the bath. Hair tonic. Good air antiseptic and can be used as a steam inhalant to clear airways. Good for excessive perspiration, arthritis, gout, rheumatism, fatigue.
Historical: Used by native Americans to prevent scurvy and to stuff mattresses to repel lice and fleas. Steam inhalation to relieve bronchial catarrh, asthma, blocked sinuses, etc.
Properties: Antiviral, bactericidal, disinfectant, deodorant, expectorant, vermifuge, antimicrobial, stimulant, insecticidal, restorative.
Dilute to 4% or less in a carrier oil before applying to the skin. Keep out of eyes. Do not swallow.
